My 2019 Word of the Year

Well, it’s the last day of January, and I promised myself I would choose my Word of the year by the end of the month. And like most things in my life, I waited till the last minute. Plus January went super fast. I blame January.

I’ve never picked a word of the year before, but this year seems perfect to start. Why?

Because this is the year I turn 40 (insert big eyes emoji). I’ve always thought of 40 as “over the hill”. Meaning everything is downhill from there. Your body, your mind, your energy, your passion are all on the decline. I remember when my Dad turned 40. I was in the 9th grade and he seemed SO. OOOOLD. Sorry, Dad.

40 seems to represent half-way through. The average life span is roughly about 80 years, right? (see Psalm 90:10) Only God knows how long my life will last. BUT. If I am half-way through it, then I want to make the most of the second 40 years of my life.

In my first 40 years, I have been invested in by so many people. My parents, teachers, sisters, pastors, husband, kids, friends, classes, books, etc. have all blessed and shaped my life…invested in me. I want to spend the 2nd half of my life giving back…investing in them.

So my 2019 word is….INVEST.

In-vest (verb)–to devote (one’s time, effort, or energy) to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result.

So this year, my goal is to…

Invest in my walk with God.

Invest in my marriage.

Invest in my kids (especially my daughter who will be off to college in 18 months).

Invest in my friendships.

Invest in my home.

Invest in learning.

Invest in my health.

All of these are worthy of my time, energy and effort.

Psalm 90:12 “So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”

P.S. The first word that I chose was “Forward”. To which my husband replied…”Sounds expensive!”. He’s not wrong. The first thing I thought of was moving forward on our kitchen renovation lol. He knows me too well. 😉
